Damergou

   Northwestern area of Damargaram in Niger and a major caravan stop on the Tripoli-Zinder-Kano route. It is home to the Imouzourag and Kel Owey Tuareg, who clashed over the control of the region. The Imouzourag protected sedentary farming communities from attacks by the Kel Owey, who traditionally led and escorted all caravans throughout the region. With the advent of French colonial schemes of divide and rule, the Kel Owey ultimately defeated their rivals, the Imouzourag.
